Cooking With Cannabis at Home
For this super-duper easy recipe you’re going to need a few mandatory things.
- one ounce of weed
- 4 sticks of unsalted butter
- A cheese cloth
Second – boil baby boil
For this going to need a medium to large pot filled 3/4 of the way with water, while waiting for the water to boil suggest you go smoke some of the weed your turning into butter to get a taste for flavour. Once the water has started to boil add your four sticks of butter. Super easy right.
Third – Add the flower
So your butter is all melted the water is boiling, you’re going to want to reduce the heat to medium so it stays at a rolling boil for the next three hours! Now you can add the grinded up flower in to the pot of water and butter, and as simple as that you let it do its thing for three hours and make sure you stir it every now and then. You will start to notice the water reducing and a bright green oil/film on top of the water that’s how you know it’s done or close to
Forth – strain the butter goodness
Now we can use the fancy cheese cloth to strain the flower from the liquid. I used a large deep bowl, placed the cloth over the boil then poured the butter mixture on top the cloth and strain and squish all the warm buttery weed goodness. Set aside in the fridge for a few hours I left mine overnight and in the morning you’ll notice that the butter has separated from the water. Scrape off the green butter and place in a container, scrape off any of the water that remains. Wham bam thank you ma’am you’ve just made homemade cannabutter.
Now you can replace butter in any recipe with your own cannabutter. After I made mine I made some sugar cookies and I also made some banana bread.
To figure out the dosage and percent of THC or CBD in your butter and edibles you should know the percentage of THC on your bud. So let’s guess it has an average of 10% THC and for every 1 gram of bud its roughly 1000mg of dry weight, so what every your THC percentage is you’ll divide that by 1000mg so for example 10% THC, divided by 1000mg is roughly 100mg of THC. So it’s safe to assume that any of your baked goods at home has around 100mg of THC in it.
